About Me
Dr. Mathews James is working as a Consultant Surgical Gastroenterologist and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon at SMHRC, Thodpuzha. He has over 10 years of experience in the field of gastrosurgery. He pursued MBBS degree at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry which is an Institute of National Importance (INI), funded by central government. He did his Master of Surgery (MS) in general surgery at the same premier institute. He was awarded the B. N Balakrishna Rao gold medal in general surgery. He also did senior residency in the same department for one year when he assisted in undergraduate teaching and training of surgery residents.
Later, he secured first rank in super speciality entrance and started his MCh training in surgical gastroenterology. He had extensive training in open, laparoscopic as well as robotic approaches in dealing with the common disorders of esophagus, stomach, pancreas, liver and colorectum. He had also assisted in the cadaveric liver transplant program-me at JIPMER. He cleared Diploma of National Board (DNB) and Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery (FMAS).
Dr. Mathews worked in renowned private hospitals in Trivandrum before joining SMHRC. His prime areas of expertise are in biliary, pancreatic, colorectal and laparoscopic surgeries. He also had advanced laparoscopic expertise in hernia surgery. He has also published numerous articles in reputed national and international journals. He has presented award winning works at international conferences.
