Microbiology

The department of Microbiology is a branch of medicine which deals with the
prevention, diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases. The services provided in
the laboratory are divided into Clinical bacteriology, Mycology, Serology,
Immunology and Mycobacteriology. The department is equipped with an
automated blood culture system (Bact/Alert 3D) and Sensitivity system (Vitek 2
compact).
It provides services to Clinicians for timely decision making by diagnosis of
infectious diseases, reports the antibiotic sensitivity and provides antibiograms for
preparing the hospital’s antibiotic policy. Fungal staining and culture to diagnose fungal infections. AFB staining to diagnose Tuberculosis. Different serological and immunological tests to diagnose acute febrile illness. Also supports the infection control team with timely alerts on outbreaks, surveillance
cultures of various departments like Operation theatres, Intensive care units, Dietary, etc.
